Ferran Collado (Barcelona, 1944)
Ferran grew up as the second of three children in a family of tailors in the city of Barcelona.
There he worked selling books for a publishing company until he joined his parents who years before had moved to Vallgorguina. From this small village by the Monsteny Mountains, he started a business selling pottery at the markets in the surrounding villages.
After recovering from a stroke, which at the age of 40 paralyzed the right side of his body, he took care of his mother (also paralyzed by a stroke) and father until they passed away.
Thanks to an ingenious system of tele-assistance and a weekly visit of a cleaning lady, is he able to live alone in his house in Vallgorguina.
He's daily routine include a 1 mile walk to the local cafe where he socialize and drinks coffee, voluntary work at the elderly center and cooking himself two meals a day. Ferran also uses internet to keep in touch with family and friends.
