Bill Hoy (Watford, 1920 ✝ Margate, 2014)

Bill was born and bred in the provincial town of Watford, a few miles north of London.

He began his long working career at twelve years old, as a butcher’s delivery boy.

After being wounded in the war Bill was sent home, and moved with his wife and baby from Watford to

Margate. He is still living in the same house. He returned to the butchers trade and remained a butcher

until retirement. After his wife's death in 1996, Bill decided to keep up his social connections by

lunching four days a week at the community centre of the local church. A taxi bus brings him  there and back.

The other days in the week he cooks for himself, and does odd jobs about the house. Every wednesday a

taxi bus takes him and a few friends from the centre, to the supermarket to do the weekly shopping.

His youngest daughter keeps an eye on his health, does the washing and any heavy jobs,

and his grandsons see to it that the T.V. and radio are in good working order – Bill loves to watch football!
